Shaniera Akram raises alarm after biohazardous waste washes ashore on Seaview beach

It’s like everything you are scared of in a hospital has just washed up on our beach, says Shaniera

Shaniera Akram shared alarming pictures of biohazardous waste which has washed ashore on Karachi's Clifton beach and declared a "state of emergency" to shed light on the issue.

The 37-year old wife of cricket legend Wasim Akram seems to be disturbed about the medical waste and litter washing up on the beach, which she considers to be unsafe and hazardous.

"Nearly stood on 9 syringes at the beach this morning, don't know if I should be more worried about our rubbish situation or our drug epidemic," Shaniera wrote on her Twitter account.

And the Australian beauty has proof. Shaniera took to her Instagram account to share a video of the extensive amounts of medical waste and rubbish along the shores of the Karachi beach. "There is kilometers of medical waste, including open syringes, vials of blood, broken glass medical containers, that has come in from the ocean spread out over kilometers across the beach," the mother-of-one wrote.

"Our beach is a bio-hazard zone and needs to be shut down immediately. I am so sorry to the people including myself who use and love our beach but this is beyond safe."

But Shaniera's call to action didn't end there. She also suggested the beach be shut down until it's safe for public use and also requested the media to take notice of the uncleanly situation.

"I have walked on Clifton beach everyday for the last 4 years and I have never been scared until today," she wrote. In another tweet, Shaniera shared that she has "remained silent for too long" over the issue.

Meanwhile, Shaniera also shut down a reply to her call to action over Twitter. The user wrote, "It is hazardous for you but we are only Pakistani nationals and we are born to die an unnatural death."

Shaniera was quick to retort. "What are you talking about? What kind of mentality is this? Your life is just as important as anyone on this planet, never ever forget that!"
