CANBERRA: A report by an Australia based research centre said that Pakistan was the fifth most violent nation in the world.

The report said that Iraq is the most violent nation, followed by Somalia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Pakistan, Israel, Georgia, Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The United States ranked eighty-fifth, below Cuba and China and just ahead of Angola.

Beacons of peace include New Zealand, which topped the index, followed by Iceland, Japan, Austria, Norway, Ireland, Denmark, Luxembourg, Finland and Sweden.

The report was prepared by the Institute for Economics and Peace, and said that the world in general was becoming a more violent place.

Seems a tad skewed….I would have thought Singapore would be among the “beacons of peace.”Recommend

hmmm so if a couple of non-americans blew themselves up on a regular basis in the US and made it seem like they were US nationals… would that make US a violent place?Recommend

The Pakistani mullahs, our self-proclaimed religious demagogues, will soon take Pakistan to number one. This is what they wanted in the first place when they called Pakistan as paleedistan and qaid-e-azam as kaffer-e-azam even before the creation of Pakistan. They have been working very hard in the last 60 years to achieve their goals and all politicians have been playing in their hands.Recommend

The report probably gave Pakistan benefit of doubt due to its willing or unwilling role in fight against Taliban but in fact we are #1. In practical life, we practice violence at every level, home, office, streets, neighbours, against women, children, servants etc. The fabric of society has been torn apart. Peaceful co-existence has become a dream yet no one speaks about it. Those responsible for moral guidance are busy in beating drums on roads about irrelevant and non-issues. This is real downfall of society, culture and religion.Recommend

This report is not based on overall facts, hence its not true that whole of the country is violent in the eyes of the world. Though there are some parts of the regions where fights between military & militants are going on due to controversies on the behest of some foreign elements who doesn’t want to see Pakistan to flourish and arise to the map of the world as powerful & nuclear capable country. And its true that pakistani peoples hospitality is famous in the world. Recommend
