Tribute: Victims of Melody suicide attacks remembered

ISLAMABAD:

The city police on Thursday paid tribute to their 16 colleagues who lost their lives in two suicide attacks near Melody market, G-6 three years ago.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Ahmed Mukaram and Senior Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Zubair Ahmed Hashmi laid floral wreath at the police memorial established near Melody market and said prayers for the departed souls. The victims included an inspector and a station house officer of Sihala police, the highest ranking officer killed in terrorist attacks on the police.

On the occasion, the officers said the department will extend “all possible assistance” to the families and heirs of the police officials who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“Fallen cops of the Islamabad police force have left behind indelible memories and heroic examples that will continue to inspire others in the fight against terrorism,” said SSP (Headquarters) Hashmi. “Like their compatriots elsewhere in the country, police in the national capital have added a golden chapter in their history, written with their blood,” he added.

DIG (Headquarters) Mukaram said that the courageous role played by the police in the capital in preventing disasters and nabbing would-be suicide bombers has “won” the hearts of the people.
