The International Cricket Council (ICC) sought to dispel the notion that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been given a window in the international cricket calendar, saying the issue did not crop up in the governing body’s annual conference, and nor did the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) push for it.
In an interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI), ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat said BCCI never pressed the ICC on the issue, and neither did the governing body consider it, even though gaps have been left in the Future Tours Programme (FTP) for most nations during April and May for the eight-year period from 2012-20.
“There is no window for the IPL in the FTP. The issue was never discussed at the ICC Board-level and neither the IPL management nor BCCI requested it,” the PTI quoted Lorgat as saying.
The FTP, which was approved by the ICC Executive Board on the recommendations of the Chief Executives’ Committee, leaves space for a seemingly unofficial IPL window in April and May.
