Three brothers drown in pit filled with rainwater

The fourth brother survives and is undergoing treatment

KARACHI: Four brothers drowned in a pit full of rainwater on Wednesday in the jurisdiction of SITE Super Highway Police Station. They were pulled out of the pit and shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared three of them dead. The fourth brother is under-going treatment.

A deep pit filled with water near Mullah Esa Goth during rain in the area. The brothers, along with other children of the area, had gone to get food from a stall set up by a charity organisation and started playing and swimming in the pit on the way back. The children were of Afghan origin and like their father, used to scavenge for plastic bottles and do other odd jobs.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, SITE Super Highway SHO Aslam Khan said that the children started calling for help when they realised that the brothers hadn't emerged from the water for a while. The neighbourhood immediately informed rescue teams who reached there and managed to fish them out.

Their father, Lal Muhammad, is a labourer and a resident of the area. He said that the neighbourhood children usually come to play at the place of the incident. The bodies of the deceased children were handed over to the family after medico-legal formalities.
