Water shortage in Sukkur

Letter August 26, 2019
Shortage of water in the third-biggest city of Sindh has reached up to 65% while water supply

SUKKUR: The main issue that is faced by the people of Sukkur city is water shortage and supply of unhygienic water to homes, despite the city being located at the right bank of the River Indus. For the past few months, the water supplied by the corporation is muddy and contaminated. It is posing hazard to our health and is unfit for drinking. Cases of diarrhoea and of other water-borne diseases are occurring on a regular basis due to the consumption of contaminated water. Families are compelled to collect underground drinking water through hand pumps from far-flung areas to meet their domestic demand of drinking water, as it is beyond their capacity to purchase costly mineral water for drinking and domestic use.

Moreover, shortage of water in the third-biggest city of Sindh has reached up to 65 per cent while water supply. Various areas of Sukkur city are not being supplied water for the last few days. Obviously, this is causing difficulties to residents of these localities.

People have lodged several complaints with the municipal water supply authorities regarding the suspension of water supply and poor quality of water supply, but all their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The authorities have not yet taken any concrete steps to solve our problem.

I demand of the Sukkur administration and water supply authorities to look into the matter and take necessary actions immediately and ensure regular supply of clean water to people.
