Board meeting: Trackers, e-ticketing for city buses soon

LAHORE:

The Lahore Transport Company will soon install trackers in buses on all city routes under a fleet management system and introduce electronic ticketing system, LTC chairman Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan said at a board meeting on Wednesday.

He said with trackers installed in all buses, the LTC would be able to monitor their movement and distribute operational subsidies transparently.

Hasaan said work on a project to operate 2,000 more buses on various routes in the city was underway and that 300 new buses would soon be available. He said several investors had shown interest in the project.

He said the recent launch of air-conditioned coaches on the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) to Civil Secretariat route had been very successful.

He said the LTC aimed at facilitating private transport companies and encouraging them to improve the transport infrastructure.  He said the LTC would ensure that affordable and good quality transport facilities were available in the city.

Hasaan directed the enforcement wing to take action against encroachments on bus stands and the vehicles operating illegally.

He said a pilot project was being started to improve the quality of transport infrastructure in the city. Under the project, he said, electronic ticketing booths would be set up and water coolers installed at all bus stands.

He said commuters would be able to get information about the timings of buses from the stands. He said it would be ensured that buses stop at all bus stands on their approved routes.
