A Jirga had ordered the killing of a woman after a man had been killed on suspicion of having relations with her. However, Saro police station in Charsadda district got information on time and rescued the mother of four, when she was being taken in a pick-up.
A senior police officer told The Express Tribune on the telephone that a man, Murem Zeb, was killed four years ago by the relatives of a woman on allegations of having an illicit relationship with her. He was the first cousin of the woman, who was confined by her family after the case.
The family of the deceased had been demanding the killing of the woman, too, the alleged second character of the honour killing.
Finally, a Jirga approved her murder and she was being taken away to a desolate place in a pick up when police raided and rescued her.
Police arrested Noor Islam, Hazart Ullah, Fazle Khaliq, and Shah Hussian on charges of attempt to murder.
Police also arrested Jirga members Abdul Wahab, Noor Wali, Sabzali, Muhibullah, Akbar Hussain, who been booked into the Regi police station under section PPC sections, 34,-109-364.
The rescued woman was handed over to the Woman Police Station for safe custody.
Peshwar SSP Operations Zahoor Babar Afridi, SP Rural Shaukat Khan, SP rural Shaukat Khan, DSP Rahim Hussian, and SHO Regi police station Arshid Khan played a leading role in foiling the attempt to kill the woman and also got FIR lodged against the accused in the attempt to murder case on behalf of the victim.
