PESHAWAR: Five young girls drowned in the Indus River in the Toka area near Mirah Bisham in Shangla District on Wednesday. According to local people, the five ill-fated girls were walking on the bank on Indus River while holding each other’s hands. When one of the girls slipped and suddenly fell in the river, the remaining four girls were also dragged in while trying to save her. A number of people rushed to the site to try and rescue the girls, but to no avail. The bodies of the girls were not recovered. Muhammad Akbar, a resident of Toka near Mirah, lost three daughters, 10-year-old Nabila, eight-year-old Sabela and six-year-old Touseefa. The other two were also sisters, Nazish, and seven-year-old Raheela. A pale of grief has engulfed the entire locality after the loss of five children from the same area. APP
