Flood wreaks havoc in Rajanpur, Vehari

Several schools are inundated by floodwater

MULTAN: Flooding of the Indus River near Rajanpur resulted in water entering dozens of low-lying areas. Several government schools have been inundated due to which academic activities were suspended.

The water released by India will pass through Kot Mithan in a day or two. The flash flood is likely to reach Head Islam tomorrow.

Vehari district’s administration also completed arrangements in this regard.

Thousands of acres of the cotton crop and dozens of low-lying areas were inundated due to the flood in the Indus River.

As many as eight government schools in the areas of Kot Mithan, Umar Kot and Rojhan were inundated by floodwater.

The schools included Government Elementary School Dera Dildar, Primary School Chak Hathiyar, School Basti Bahram and others.

The flooding also affected academic activities at the mentioned institues. The floodwaters of the Indus River have also entered several low-lying areas in Jamapur. Hundreds of acres of crops and houses have been inundated. There is a flood of medium intensity occurring at Jampur in the Indus River.

Water level in River Sutlej continues to rise, flow crosses 52,000 cusecs

As per the report issued by the flood control room, the water released from India will cross Kot Mithan-Indus River through the Head Panjnad in a day or two. The administration has issued a flood warning and relief camps have been set up.

On the other hand, a small flood torrent released by India in the Sutlej River will enter Vehari on Saturday (today) at any time. Sources said India has released a further 109,000 cusecs of water from Bhakra Dam in Sutlej River, which will arrive in Vehari in the next few days. It is feared that more than 100 villages and low-lying areas in Vehari District will be affected by this flash flood.

On Thursday, 12,000 cusecs of water was recorded on the Islam headwork. Deputy Commissioner Irfan Kathia said arrangements have been completed fir the floods.

As many as 12 relief camps have been set up for the victims and they will be provided with all facilities including health. He said camps of the health department, Rescue 1122, civil defence and other departments have also been set up.
