KARACHI:

Four men who robbed a house in Defence Housing Authority and murdered two household helpers in 2005 were sentenced to death on Wednesday.

Rehan, who worked as a gatekeeper at Jehan Ara’s house in DHA, had planned to rob the East Avenue house along with five other men on March 13. He hid Abu Bakr, Haroon and Javaid in his quarters but they were discovered by the maid Rubina.

The maid, better known as Rani, was then strangled, her jewellery removed and locked in a room. They then moved towards the kitchen and killed another maid, Shanti. Her screams got the attention of Jehan Ara, who was then held hostage and bound by ropes.

The men stole the jewellery and fled.
