Rid Pakistan of corruption

Letter August 21, 2019
We need to carefully seek the right individuals with the right mindset and qualifications to run this country

KARACHI: Since the independence there has been outright and wide-scale corruption by governments. We have seen the privileged abuse and misuse our country and the people. Dynasties are created, who enrich themselves by stealing from people’s pockets. Our country has been neglected for many years, burdened with enormous debts which our children and grandchildren will have to repay. It is a frustrating to see that nothing is being done to alleviate the abuse of authority.

It is unfair for educated individuals, with the right qualification, to not get jobs due to nepotism. With even our healthcare under intense scrutiny coupled with immigration scandals, we must anticipate more is yet to come. It seems that we soon lose sight on our primary goal of serving the nation.

We must rapidly come up with solutions to problems such as crime, unemployment, poverty, healthcare and debt as they are all vital for the development of our country. I want to see my country flourish instead of being plagued with rampant corruption.

I’ve seen well-mannered, educated and humble individuals turn bad after tasting power. This is what our country has become. We must open our eyes and stop this from happening.

We need to carefully seek the right individuals with the right mindset and qualifications to run this country, in the direction that is beneficial for the greater good rather than focusing on personal gains. We need to focus on true development and not be fooled by the so-called ‘stakeholders’ of our country. We need to take Pakistan’s fate in our own hands. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely; and if we fail to plan then consequently we plan to fail.
