ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan welcomed US President Donald Trump's reconciliatory role on Kashmir situation and regional peace.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, she said the nation is proud of the fact that Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly contested the case of Kashmir in the world.

She said the international community has taken notice of the situation in occupied Kashmir and is expressing concerns over India’s unilateral actions.

Firdous said the UN Security Council's meeting negated India’s claim that Kashmir was an ‘internal matter’.

She said India can neither change reality of the festering dispute through its unilateral actions nor can hoodwink the world.

Firdous Ashiq Awan said Pakistan will present the case of oppressed Kashmiri people and the Indian injustices at every forum.

She said India will be shown the mirror of its oppression and tyranny at every forum.

The special assistant said Pakistan firmly stands with their Kashmiri brethren in their just struggle for the right to self-determination.

A day earlier, US President Trump had spoken with PM Imran and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging a reduction of tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours over the disputed Kashmir region.

“The president conveyed the importance of reducing tensions between India and Pakistan and maintaining peace in the region,” White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

Trump also talked to PM Imran Khan, their second conversation in three days on the situation in Kashmir.
