World Humanitarian Day

Letter August 19, 2019
The day is observed to create awareness among the public about humanitarian assistance activities

KECH: Every year 19th of August is observed as World Humanitarian Day (WHD) globally to pay tribute to all humanitarians who have worked for the promotion of the humanitarian cause, and those who have lost their lives for the cause. World Humanitarian Day was first marked on 19th August 2003, following the attack on the United Nations offices in Baghdad that killed 22, including Sergio de Mello, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the leader of the UN Mission in Iraq. In Pakistan also, the day is observed to create awareness among the public about humanitarian assistance activities. We should come forward and observe this day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives for protection of those in need.
