RAWALPINDI:

A day after Rawalpindi police arrested a couple for allegedly  kidnapping, sexually assaulting and blackmailing dozens of girls after making inappropriate videos of them, it was revealed on Saturday that one of the main accused worked as a video blogger and ran a Pakistani anti-virus website.

Qasim along with his wife Kiran Mehmood confessed to authorities after a complaint was filed by an MSc student who had fallen prey to the couple.

City Police Officer Rawalpindi Mohammad Faisal Rana directed the police to serve as a complainant in case victims were afraid to come forward in the video scandal case which has come under the media lens.

"The couple joined hands to carry out these heinous crimes, which were presumably live-streamed," Rana said. "Even if the girls are scared to come forward we [the police] will file the complaint."

Qasim, who's on a two-day physical remand, managed to destroy the hard disks which contained the footage; however, police are trying to recover it.

The police officer said Qasim's father runs a gambling den, adding that action against the accused persons will take place by the book.

A forensic unit has also been established with the FIA's cybercrime wing to investigate the matter, which will be headed by Rana.

The couple lived a rented house in Gulistan colony with the authorities now verifying Qasim's rent details.

Two mobile phones, a computer and car used by the pair were taken into custody.

Punjab has been mired in the sex abuse cases against minors with cases arising in a raft of cities, including Kasur, which drew the attention of the media in the recent past.

In the complaint, the alleged victim said she was picked up from outside Gordon College by a couple who arrived in a grey car.

The student, who's also married, was taken to a house in Gulistan Colony where Qasim allegedly raped her while Mehmood took pictures and recorded the crime. She was then blackmailed, and dropped off at Tipu Road.

Qasim has confessed to the kidnapping of 45 girls who were between the ages of eight and 12 with his wife also helping him, police said, adding that the couple had sold the videos and photos to an international porn website.
