G-B teacher wins World of Difference Award

Salima Begum has instructed more than 7,000 teachers in G-B and over 8,000 across the country

GILGIT: Salima Begum, an award-winning teacher from Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), has been selected for 'World of Difference Award 2019' by the International Alliance for Women (TIAW).

“I’m happy to be chosen for yet another award,” Begum told The Express Tribune on Thursday.

“I've been invited to receive this award in Sydney,” the G-B teacher said who earlier this year was honoured with the UK Alumni award by the British Council.

In 2017, she made it to the top 10 finalists of Global Teacher Prize - a $1 million award for the exceptional teachers with outstanding contribution to the profession.

Pakistani teacher nominated for $1m global award

According to an official statement, TIAW's World of Difference Award recognises extraordinary women and men around the world who have contributed to the economic empowerment of women.

Begum is currently working as a head teacher in Education College, Gilgit. She holds three post graduation degrees and has served in many roles in the education sector.

The award-winning teacher has instructed more than 7,000 teachers across G-B and more than 8,000 across Pakistan.

Students of her school have performed exceptionally well in official examinations, which has resulted in an increase in enrollment.
