Transport fares during Eid

Transport fares are doubled during Eid as compared to the normal routine days

KARACHI: Everyone wants to go to their ancestral villages and towns to celebrate Eid with family and friend. People from all across Pakistan come to Karachi and work day and night to fulfil their basic needs. However, the thought of going back home entails mixed feelings.

Unfortunately, transport fares are doubled as compared to the normal routine days. People face various problems that restrict them from visiting their villages. As I went to get my ticket almost all the seats of bus services had been reserved. I was requested to wait, so I sat beside a labourer. He hailed from Ghotki, earning a daily wage of Rs700. He told me that he could not afford to get the ticket because its cost was too high (almost Rs1,500). I asked how he would go home. His reply shocked me. He said he had paid 700 rupees to travel on the roof of the bus.

It is inhumane to compel people to travel in this way hundreds of miles in the rainy season. The authorities should take action against people who try to make money from such situations.
