Securing media: Denmark supports media in Pakistan

Includes safety trainings for journalists, support to radio stations in northern areas, educational radio programmes.

ISLAMABAD: The Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Uffe Wolffhechel met a large group of leading editors and bureau chiefs from various Pakistani media groups on Tuesday to discuss the needs of the media industry in Pakistan. Wolffhechel said Denmark believed that the media is one of the most important pillars in the structure of democracy and that it should be given its due importance. He also said this will also require the workforce of the media in Pakistan to be equipped with the analytical skills to deal with important issues in society. Denmark will be supporting various initiatives for building the capacity of media in Pakistan, which will include safety trainings for journalists, support to radio stations in northern areas, educational radio programmes and international training tours, he added.
