Tony Morrison

PESHAWAR: Recently, the Nobel Prize winning American writer Tony Morrison died. She was the first black American to win the Nobel Prize. She wrote great novels such as The Bluest Eye, A Mercy, Beloved and Sulla besides many other works of fiction and non-fiction. Her works of fiction and non-fiction are held in high esteem the world over. In Pakistan too, she is a well-known literary figure. But her death, it seems, largely went unnoticed here. Why have developed such a cold attitude towards literature and culture? This trend should be reversed.
