3,700 sanitary workers deployed for post-Eid clean-up in Pindi

IMC to send out over 1,000 vehicles to pick up offal of sacrificial animals

All civic bodies in Rawalpindi city have finalised the waste management plan for Eidul-Azha.

The city including cantonment areas have been split into 16 sectors with a separate in-charge for each sector while 3,700 sanitary workers, including 1,000 daily-wage workers, would perform their duties to clean the entrails and offal of sacrificial animals.

The sectors have been divided such as four sectors in the city, four in Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) and six in Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) while daily-wagers would be given a three-day special allowance.

The teams would be equipped with vehicles, handcarts and barrows to get access to areas inside narrow streets. The workers will collect animals’ waste from inner streets and shift them to roads where it would be picked up by mini-dampers every three hours. This waste would be dumped outside the city’s remits.

In this regard, the citizens have been requested to put animal waste outside their houses in shopping bags.

The high officials would examine cleanliness conditions on a daily basis and there would be strict action taken against sector in-charge if any place was found unclean and filthy.

Limestone would be strewn across the city in order to prevent spread of diseases.

Water supply assured

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) announced uninterrupted water supply during Eid-ul-Azha. In this regard, the leaves of related officials and staff have been cancelled while tube-well operators have been directed to open them on time.

The agency also issued emergency plan in case of rain, while it has also been directed to put covers on all open manholes.

It has been declared mandatory to repair tube-wells within 24 hours in case if they break down or else the related staff would face action.

Under anti-dengue campaign, Managing Director (MD) WASA, Muhammad Tanvir, has directed to keep an eye on stagnant water in filtration plants groundwater storage and overhead tanks

Similar orders were issued to agency’s staff and officials to keep washroom floors dry and tightly close all taps He directed not to leave water uncovered in buckets or any other container.

MD instructed to remove any kind of garbage, tires and building material from all offices, field offices, tube-wells and filtration plants.

He directed all officials to ensure implementation on SOPs otherwise they would face an action.

Capital clean-up

At least 2,000 sanitary workers will be busy cleaning the capital after the mass slaughtering of sacrificial animals on the occasion of Eidul Azha.

Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) Sanitation Directorate has assigned special duties to 2,000 sanitary workers to carry out three-day cleanliness campaign in the federal capital during Eidul Azha, said Sanitation Director Sardar Khan Zimri.

Over 100 vehicles would remain present in different sectors of the city for early disposal of offal and other wastes of sacrificial animals on scientific basis and for that purpose more than 70 deep ditches have been dug out at 37 different places, he said

On the directions of Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz, all formations concerned, including Emergency and Disaster Management, 1122 (Ambulance Service) and Capital Hospital would perform joint coordinated efforts to serve the capital dwellers during Eid holidays, he added.

Besides, two emergency cells have also been established, one at Transport Section, CDA Fire Headquarters while the other one at Sanitation Directorate, Sector G-6-1/4 which would be functional round the clock, the director maintained.

He sought public cooperation for making this operation successful, urging them to not throw offal and other waste material of sacrificial animals in the green areas rather keep it in front of their houses so that sanitation workers could easily pick and dispose off the waste in proper manner.

According to the cleanliness plan, the capital city would be divided into five zones in the supervision of Director Sanitation, while the other staff including officers and privatized sectors would work round-the-clock in three shifts and leaves of the entire sanitation staff have been canceled.

Zone I would comprise sectors F-5, F-6, G-5, G-6, Blue Area, Saidpur Village and Barri Imam. Zone II would consist of Faisal Mosque, sectors E-7, F-7, F-8, G-7 and G-8. Areas in Zone III would be F-10, F-11, Golra, G-9, G-10, G-11 and G-13. While Zone IV would cover sectors H-8, H-9, H-10, H-11, I-8, I-9, I-10, I-11, and Zone V included areas were Islamabad Highway, Model Village Humak, Shahzad Town, Rawal Town and Margallah Town.
