Indian Prisoners: CJ takes suo motu notice over delay

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Tuesday took suo motu notice of the detention of two Indian women and sought a report from home secretary and superintendent of Kot Lakhpat jail by July 11.  Parveen Jahan and Gul Afroz wrote to the chief justice stating that they had been acquitted, but were yet to be released because their passports and other documents were awaiting clearance from the home secretary. The chief justice converted the letter into a writ petition and issued the notices. He also directed Additional Advocate General Muhammad Hanif Khatana to ensure compliance with the court order.
