LAHORE:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Selector Mohsin Khan, who is supervising the board’s Fast Track Coaching Programme, has termed the country’s future safe.

Mohsin, a former Test batsman, added that Pakistan had immense talent and just needed guidance in order to become the world’s best.

“I’ve played cricket all over the world,” Mohsin told reporters. “I’ve noticed three countries – Pakistan, West Indies and Sri Lanka –  having immense talent.

“But raw talent and shaping it to use accordingly in different situation are two different things and this is what the ongoing camp is all about.”

The programme, meant to train youngsters in bowling and batting departments, is being supervised by Mohsin along with former bowlers Sarfraz Nawaz and Abdul Qadir at the National Cricket Academy.

“We have enormous talent representing the country at the highest level and there is a good back-up as well. I think our future is safe.”

Mohsin also called on players to win back their place through their performance and insisted that everyone who has been dropped has a fair chance to make a comeback.

“The selectors have not closed the door on anyone but they need to justify their return - something that can only be done through performance.”

However, Mohsin admitted that Pakistan have had a problem in finding a suitable opening pair but vowed to improve the situation on conclusion of the programme.

“We’ve had good opening pairs. Majid Khan and Sajid Mohammad did a good job and then after a lengthy gap it was me and Muddasir Nazar. Then we had Saeed Anwar and Aamir Sohail.  I admit we are struggling to find consistency,” said Mohsin.

“But I’m working on sorting the problem out.”
