India’s expansionist move

Modi should learn from history that in the end supporters of chauvinists themselves turn against them

SUKKUR: The Modi government’s decision to scrap Article 370 of the Indian constitution is a balatant aggression against the people of the state of Jammu Kashmir.

The above-mentioned article of the Indian constitution accorded special status to the state. This article also stipulates that it can only be abrogated after the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly gives the go-ahead. But the Modi government violated all these provisions and unilaterally abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir through a presidential ordinance. Now the state is under full but illegal Indian occupation.

The latest illegal move of the Modi government is being opposed by all Kashmiris. Now Omar Abdullah and Mahbooba Mufti and other pro-India leaders have turned against India. Even within India the move is being roundly condemned by saner elements. Kashmir has been under lockout for the past several days.

The state has no communication links with the rest of the world. For the past many years, Kashmiris have living in an atmosphere of fear and misery. In a plaintive appeal to the international community, Syed Ali Shah Gilani has sought help from the world community.

He has also expressed fears about genocide of Kashmiris by the Indian occupation forces. Modi should learn from history that in the end supporters of chauvinists themselves turn against them.
