Treatment of employees

There are many employees in the public sector who are dissatisfied with promotion policies

ISLAMABAD: It is an axiomatic truth that all employees, from a public or a private firm, have a need for praise and recognition. The more often they receive appreciation the better it is for organisational efficiency. It is the job of organisational heads to motivate their employees.

The reality, however, is quite the contrary. Nowadays people make every possible effort to keep the employees deprived of both recognition and promotion. Employees usually fall prey to office politics and are pushed further and further down the ladder.

There are many employees in the public sector who are dissatisfied with promotion policies. There are several organisations, both at federal and provincial levels, who have failed to give employees their due rights. Instead nepotism is prevalent in such organisations.

If the employee and their boss have a good relationship, they tend to make whimsical interpretation of the existing rules and attempt to control the rest of the employees. They consider themselves beyond it.

On the contrary, if any employee is not dancing to the tunes of their boss, there are strict consequences that they may suffer even if they may be excellent at their jobs. Without any solid grounds, these employees are demoted, their salaries are cut and promotions stopped. It can really make the work environment a living hell.

In some cases, deserving employees are even discouraged to write any application regarding promotion. This is against moral and ethical norms. I urge the bosses in this country to treat their employees with respect and dignity because without them their organisations are nothing.
