CM Mahmood Khan inaugurates 10km stretch in Swat

Mahmood suggests communication projects will help boost the local economy

PESHAWAR: The provincial chief minister, currently on a visit to his native district of Swat, on Sunday formally inaugurated a 10 kilometre stretch of road from RahatKot to Sakhra in Matta Tehsil of Swat.

The road is expected to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs190 million and will serve around 95,000 locals.

During the second day of his visit to his home district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan also laid the foundation stone of the 13 km-long Barawai Irrigation Scheme which will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs150 million and will irrigate 551 acres of barren land in Kalakot, Bagh Dheri, Asharai and adjacent villages. Addressing the inauguration ceremonies, CM Mahmood stated that they were embarking on a new era of development shortly which will be inclusive of all aspects including infrastructure, communication, agriculture and tourism.

“Planned interventions are being carried out to make K-P a hub for national and international transit and tourism”, Mahmood said, adding that they were also trying to industrialise the province.
