ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet decided on Sunday to send Ali Murad, a Hyderabad resident, into year-long protective custody of the security agencies over his alleged involvement in espionage and anti-state activities.

The cabinet went through a summary sent by the interior ministry in which security forces requesting Murad be taken into their custody to probe the charges as it is paramount to national security.

The Sindh government has been asked to help in taking Murad who was residing in the Tando Agha area of the city into their custody

The decision was taken according to Section-3 and 6 A-1 of the Security of Pakistan Act 1952.

This is not the first time a citizen has been taken into custody by authorities over espionage charges, as earlier on August 1, it was reported in the media that a man identified as Raju Laxman was arrested from Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan.

The arrest was made on the allegation of spying on nuclear enrichment facilities.

It is believed that he is from the Indian city of Indore.

Following his arrest, he was shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
