Vawda says he had already predicted Sanjrani's win

Minister says no face saving left for opposition parties after another failure

Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda said Thursday he had foreshadowed that the opposition would fail in removing Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

In a recent interview to a private news channel, Vawda had given a piece of paper to the show's anchor in which he had written that the opposition's no-confidence motion would fail.



Earlier in the day, Sanjrani survived the resolution tabled by opposition parties as out of the 100 votes cast, 50 were in its favour while five votes were rejected with 45 being cast in the Senate chairman’s favour.

The ruling party and its allies had 36 senators, meaning that at least nine opposition senators voted for Sanjrani. While two abstained from voting, one lawmaker was absent.

"I would like to first congratulate Sanjrani and as I have said earlier that just like the opposition has failed in the past.....history will surely repeat itself," Vawda said in a video message released after Sanjrani survived the move against him.



The federal minister claimed that the opposition's move to remove Sanjrani was done to "only get an NRO."

He said that the nefarious designs of opposition parties had been unmasked to the public.

"There is no face saving left for them [the opposition], if they had any self respect they would all leave politics," he said.

Vawda thanked the senators who voted against the no-confidence motion.
