Opposition's propaganda has failed, says Awan

A total of 100 senators cast their vote, 50 were in favour of the resolution

The opposition’s no-trust motion against Sadiq Sanjrani to de-seat him as Senate chairman failed on Thursday.

Out of the 100 senators who cast their vote on the motion against Sanjrani, 50 were cast in favour of his de-seating, five votes were rejected while 45 votes were cast in the Senate chairman’s favour.

Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan, in a press conference, congratulated Sanjrani. "The poisoned propaganda of the opposition has failed."

Calling it a 'victory' for every Pakistani, Firdous added that the government will provide the agenda for 'Tameer-e-Pakistan' on August 18.

"Even the corrupt opposition has a conscience," said Firdous.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held an emergency meeting in his chamber after the vote.

According to sources, the agenda of the meeting is to consult senior PPP leaders regarding the results. PPP will respond to the results after consultation, sources said.



Other political figures including Federal Minister Faisal Vawda, Babar Awan and Iftikhar Durrani also congratulated Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.
