Engineers taking BPSC test rounded up

Naseer says authorities have arrested our members who were taking the BPSC exam.

QUETTA: The Engineers Grand Alliance, which has been protesting for the past two weeks to push the authorities to meet their demands, on Wednesday condemned the detention of protesting engineers.

Addressing a news conference at the engineers’ camp outside the Quetta Press Club, Alliance President Adil Naseer threatened the authorities with holding a sit-in for an indefinite period if their demands were not met.

“Many of our members have been arrested as they appeared in the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC)’s test,” Naseer told reporters. “Despite assurance from Provincial Minister Engineer Zamrak Khan Achakzai, the notification on our demands has not been issued.”

Naseer said: “We have been protesting for 16 days, but the provincial government did not show its seriousness on our issues. It’s an irony that authorities have arrested our members who were taking the BPSC exams.”

The Engineers Grand Alliance has strongly condemned the arrest of its members and threatened to call sit-in for an indefinite period and hold protest outside the provincial assembly. “We would launch our movement within the boundaries of the law if government didn’t fulfil our demands.”
