Major increase in development fund for FATA

PESHAWAR: Finance Minister Abdul Hafiz Sheikh announced an increase in FATA's Annual Development Plan from Rs 8.6 billion to Rs 15 billion.

The finance minister made the statement during a meeting with FATA parliamentarians. The parliamentarians apprised Sheikh of the economic problems currently being face by the people of FATA.

He assured the delegation that all constitutional and administrative formalities with regard to the funds would be completed shortly and the ministry would ensure that the amount is released promptly.

Educational funding from Britain

The British Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell stated that Britain will provide free text books to 3 million children while 40 schools will be built in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Out of the 40 schools, 32 will be for girls, said Mitchell while addressing a press conference at the British High Commission in Islamabad. He said more than 6 million children do not go to school in the province while only five percent manage to complete higher secondary education.

Mitchell said a task force will be set for the development of health and education sectors in the province.
