Parliamentarian and #FixIt campaigner Alamgir Khan was arrested from a protest staged in Karachi’s Clifton area after his supporters clashed with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers on Sunday.

Khan was released later in the day. But footage of the authorities thrashing protesters and Khan being manhandled and forced into a police mobile soon went viral on social media, with users condemning his detention for protesting.

His arrest has divided Twitter and local celebrities as well. While Hamza Ali Abbasi and Ali Gul Pir came out in support of the PTI leader, The Sketches main man Saif Samejo shared his reservations. "The mob beating and thrashing of the #FixIt team and a sitting MNA Alamgir by PPP goons is pure badmashi. Yes, #FixIt can be unreasonable at times but have never resorted to violence," Gul wrote.

"How hypocriticalal PPP will look now when talking about the arrest of 2 parliamentarians of KPK yet they themselves have beaten and put a sitting MNA in jail for protesting."

Hamza shared a similar stance. "PPP staged a drama of protest to save its corruption by making democracy and sometimes, the issues of the public, an excuse. Their youth, the police after torturing, sent an elected MNA and his companions to jail for resorting to peaceful protest against heaps of garbage and shortage of water," he wrote.

"Those who created a havoc over handcuffing a journalist (which undoubtedly was a wrong step/move) might fail to see these views since raising voice on this oppression has been created to save their own corruption. I do not support fabricated "Pak army establishment conspiracy" statement."

"I don’t care what you think and comment but this #Fixit guy needs to fixed," Samejo shared. "I have always notified his mediocre approach and senseless ways and he calls it social change and you support it? Take a breath, think for a while and be clear he only act juggler."

AJ | 5 years ago | Reply Not really a fan of Alamgir because of his antics, but the PPP government acted shamefully in violently dealing with the protest. Monsoon destroyed the entire city of Karachi which we proudly term as the economic hub of the country.
