High alert issued for Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Following an alert issued by intelligence services that militants could target security and other sensitive installations in the city, a high alert has been declared by the Punjab home department in the district with the police directed to be more vigilant of their surroundings.

A source with the provincial home department told The Express Tribune, that militants may attack police stations within Rawalpindi and could also attack other sensitive installations. In this regard, security in the city has been beefed up. The source added that police have also been directed strictly check vehicles entering and exiting the city.

When contacted, investigation SSP Muhammad Faisal confirmed the threat alert.

He added that they have beefed-up security measures in the district, while special directions have been issued to ensure the security of police, security and other sensitive installations in the district.

Moreover, he said that senior police officers will also be monitoring the security situation in the districts and they will also visit the field.
