Security personnel recovered over 7 kilogrammes of heroin from a passenger at the New Islamabad International Airport who was trying to travel to Saudi Arabia, Express News reported on Sunday.
According to the Airport Security Force (ASF), the passenger, identified as Muhammad Adnan, hailed from Sheikhupura, attempted to smuggle 7.850kg of heroin worth million rupees to Jeddah.
ASF officials seized the drugs and handled the suspect to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for further investigation.
In a similar incident, the ASF had foiled a bid to smuggle more than 10 kilogrammes of drugs through the Islamabad airport in May.
According to details, the accused was trying to travel to Manchester on an international flight EK-613.
In March, mail and customs authorities in Rawalpindi foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of the synthetic psychoactive drug Ecstasy from the Netherlands worth Rs7 million.
The drugs were caught by the International Mail office in Rawalpindi with the assistance of the Customs.
Officials had termed the bust as the biggest recovery in their history.
