Good relations with US will help Pakistan in its dealings with IMF, FATF and other multilateral forums

HAIDERABAD THALL, PUNJAB: The prime minister’s visit to the US reflects that both countries seek rapprochement in bilateral relations. Trump’s offer to mediate the Kashmir dispute, if materialises, can be a landmark in the future.

Apart from other gains, the relationship between both leaders can prove to be vital for future conditions. Both Imran Khan and Donald Trump are considered as unconventional leaders. They both hate bureaucracy and script reading.

Trump is more instinctive in nature. His personal relations with other leaders can override any bureaucratic decision. North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un is a case in point. It is imperative that Prime Minister Imran Khan ‘walk the talk’ and further develop relations with the US.A peace settlement in Afghanistan is of mutual interest to both countries.

Good bilateral relations with the US will help Pakistan in its dealings with the IMF, FATF and other multilateral forums as well. Trust building measures are need of the hour. This is how we can start a new era of genuine “bilateral” relationships, beyond the Afghan prism, based on mutual benefit and trust. Inclusive instead of exclusive foreign policy is the order of the day in the 21st century. It is time for Pakistan to move forward!
