ISLAMABAD: The World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRCS) handed over an innovative information management system to the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

The Volunteer Information Management System (VIMS), developed by WFP, will enable PRCS to maintain up-to-date information on its volunteers who play a key role in preparing for emergencies and response activities.

The system also provides a platform for online learning and knowledge management for use by volunteers.

“The VIMS software will enable PRCS to organise and mobilise its volunteer workforce more efficiently and effectively in the wake of any emergency or disaster,” said WFP Pakistan Country Director Finbarr Curran.

“By doing so, we enable PRCS to assist disaster-hit families and communities more effectively.”

“We greatly appreciate WFP’s support in developing the software and also providing the necessary training to our staff,” said PRCS Secretary General Khalid Bin Majeed.
