Unhygienic conditions in Karachi

Letter July 25, 2019
I urge the authorities to do the needful without any further delay

KARACHI: I would like to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to the problem of garbage accumulation in North Nazimabad’s Block I and Block S.

Garbage collection vans do not come to this area regularly. As a result, garbage lies scattered onto the road. After being left there for many days, it starts giving off a bad odour, which is unbearable. Moreover, it attracts various insects and microorganisms. Sometimes, during a windy season, garbage disperses onto the entire side lanes, affecting the mobility of people.

Furthermore, gutters are also overflowing in the area. This is a good breeding ground for mosquitoes. This causes many diseases such as dengue, malaria and even cholera. In most localities of Karachi one can see heaps of garbage and gutter overflows. Nothing is being done about these problems. I am afraid if remedial measures are not taken immediately, dangerous epidemics might break out in the city.

I urge the authorities to do the needful without any further delay.
