LONDON:
Manchester United are close to signing Leicester City’s defender Harry Maguire for 80 million euros in a desperate attempt to strengthen their defence for the upcoming season.

The Englishman has been very vocal about his future at King Power Stadium and he may want to leave in this transfer window or the January transfer window. However, Man United are thought to be in pole position to capture the defender’s signature.

The Independent claim that an end to one of the summer's most protracted transfer sagas is now 'imminent', with United reportedly paying £70m up front and another £10m based on conditional clauses.

Harry Maguire was linked to a move to the Etihad Stadium but despite the Premier League champions willingness to match Man United’s offer for the defender, Maguire wants to follow in the footsteps of his heroes Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic who both played for Manchester United in their careers.

United’s main objective in this year’s transfer window is to strengthen their defence and Harry Maguire would join Aaron Wan-Bissaka in strengthening the defending positions.

Englis defender would be Man United’s third signing in this year’s transfer window after the arrival of Daniel James and the club is confident in extending David De Gea’s contract which expires at the end of the 2019/20 season.
