Wazirs construct houses on disputed land after both tribes declare it as 'no-mans land'

WANA: A Mehsud-Wazir clash is feared over a piece of land near Makeen area of South Waziristan.

Decades ago, Nano Khel tribe of Mehsuds and Sparekai Ethikhel Khojul Khel tribe of Wazirs had a conflict over an area between Shakai, Khesura, and Tururram Pull. A number of people were killed in the feud.

The then political agent engineered a truce and the disputed zone was declared no man’s land or Pathar-e-Bala (higher stone). As per peace deal, no one will build anything in Pathar-e-Bala area, except for government, which may build schools, hospitals or any other facility it may deem fit.

Over a period of time the population was dislocated from the region during operations. However, when the Mehsud people came back they found out no man’s land compromised. The Wazirs had constructed houses on disputed land, which meant war.

In the meantime Adviser to the Chief Minister Ajmal Wazir has upgraded the status of the area to a tehsil and termed it to be Wazir-owned land.

The Mehsud Nanokhel tribe has urged the provincial and federal government to reinstate the status of the disputed land and limited it for the public utility and demanded legal actions against those Wazir residents who have violated the code of the land in the South Waziristan.
