Football: West Ham vow legal action

LONDON: West Ham United plan to sue the Sunday Times and Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur over allegations of corruption during its successful bid to take over the main Olympics stadium. West Ham, which was relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, was awarded the right to move to the new stadium after the 2012 games, beating Tottenham in the process. A report in the Sunday Times claimed that secret payments had been made to an executive from the body which made the decision during the selection process. “The suggestion of ‘secret cash’ is categorically denied,” West Ham said in a statement. “Legal action is being taken against the Sunday Times as well as against Tottenham Hotspur.” West Ham further said it was completely certain of the “robustness” of its bid.
