Drug smuggling bid foiled at IIA
RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad police conducted a grand search operation in precincts of Noon and Bani Gala police stations on Wednesday.
Some 15 suspects were detained during the operation conducted under supervision of City SP Aamir Niazi and Industrial Area SP Sayed Aziz.
Rangers, Counter Terrorism Force, police commandos, lady commandos, Bomb Disposal Squad and personnel of intelligence agencies participated in the operation.
The LEAs checked 215 people, searched 190 houses, 30 shops, various hotels and arrested some 15 suspects.
The teams recovered five pistols, 2.2 kg heroin, six stolen motorcycles, a double-barrel shotgun, a .222 rifle along with ammunition from them.
DIG Operations, Waqaruddin Syed said that search operations was meant to maintain security in the federal capital.
Separately, a passenger, Sunny Manzoor, was caught at International Airport (IIA) trying to smuggle drugs hidden inside a portable chair on Wednesday.
The Airport Security Force (ASF) officials disassembled it on suspicion and recovered more than 1.5kg of hashish concealed inside chair’s compartments.
The passenger was booked and handed over to the Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF) for further investigation.
