PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University on Monday announced that it will conduct entrance tests for MBBS and BDS programmes in public and private medical colleges of the province on Sunday, August 25.

The tests will commence at 8:30am and will be simultaneously arranged in seven centres across the province.

According to an announcement from the KMU, the tests will be held in more than 40 halls in Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Swat, Hazara, Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan Divisions.

The varsity, though, said that they could increase the number of halls depending on the response they receive.

The KMU has deemed it as mandatory for aspiring candidates to have a domicile of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa or of the newly-merged tribal districts, or are overseas Pakistanis or foreign nationals.

As per the newly promulgated rules of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), aspiring candidates must have passed their intermediate or Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Pre-Medical Group or equivalent examinations (A-Level, 12th Grade, etc) with a minimum of 70% unadjusted marks.

Over 150,000 students to repeat exams

Though, those awaiting results can also apply.

The KMU Admission Directorate has instructed that candidates seeking admission in allied health sciences undergraduate programmes having obtained a minimum of 60% marks for DPT and 50% marks for BS Nursing, BS Paramedics, BS Speech and Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy in Federal Science (Pre-Medical) or equivalent examination can also appear in the medical entrance test.

The KMU, however, clarified that simply appearing in the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency (ETEA) medical entrance test does not confer the right to apply for or claim admission to any medical or dental institution.

Candidates can register online for the ETEA Medical Entrance Test from Wednesday, July 17, to July 31 by logging on to the kmuadmissions.pk.

The candidates can then select any of the examination halls and any of the regions as their test centre Scratch cards worth Rs2,500 will be available in 22 districts of K-P from as well as in Islamabad and Gilgit from MCB bank branches on working days.

Curiously, the KMU has decided to conduct the entrance tests through the ETEA again this year despite massive irregularities which were unearthed last year when the test had to be held on three different occasions.

This time, PMDC regulations stipulate that there will be a single question paper containing 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) divided into four sections including Biology = 80 MCQs, Chemistry = 60 MCQs, Physics = 40 MCQs and English = 20 MCQs.
