GOATs reunited

Despite their age, both brought the energy of a young 20-something athlete

KARACHI: With the most prestigious Grand Slam tournament currently underway, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal competed against each other at the second men’s singles semi-final on Friday. Novak Djokovic had defeated Bautista Agut and had already laid claim to a spot in the finals barely an hour before these two clashed. The match was monumental as the two players were competing with each other at Wimbledon after a gap of 11 years. As the commentators stated, the two GOATs, or the ‘Greatest Of All Times’, were as phenomenal as they were in 2009 — the last time they played against each other. The two brought quality tennis and kept the audience at the edge of their seats as they played the longest rally of 25 shots and repeatedly scored deuces before Federer scored the match point. Despite their age, both brought the energy of a young 20-something athlete. Even the commentators joked if anyone had actually seen Federer’s passport as even at 37, he remained as agile as ever. Despite being a supporter of Nadal, one cannot deny the skill and prowess of Federer. Given his mastery of the game and how he has learnt to control his emotions on court, Federer might just win this year’s Wimbledon.
