Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb on Sunday said the party will take legal action against Prime Minister Imran Khan, his special assistant Shahzad Akbar and British publication, the Daily Mail, for what she said was unsupported slander against party president Shehbaz Sharif.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Marriyum claimed the story against Shehbaz was 'planted' after a meeting between The Mail on Sunday reporter David Rose and Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.

She made these claims while waving a picture from the supposed Bani Gala meet-up which also included Shahzad Akbar.

Marriyum declared that the meeting was nothing but an elaborate plan to defame Shehbaz, especially since Akbar failed to prove any allegations against the PML-N president.

The spokesperson said the allegations against Shehbaz were ‘baseless’ and “a part of a propaganda campaign to divert attention from the current lockdown in the country”.

She also declared that the report is not credible because anonymous sources levelled allegations without any official backing.

Marriyum added that the funds given to Shehbaz were used to build more schools and hospitals in a bid to improve the health and education sectors in Punjab.

She said the allegations against the PML-N president were to cover up the details of the 18 fake bank accounts that PM Imran used to launder money during the 2018 elections.

“This is a witch hunt by Imran Khan,” she said, accusing the premier of spreading lies and plotting against the PML-N.

She added that even the British government had refuted the news report and said that their aid was used for the development of Punjab.
