In Shambles: CDG orders sealing of old buildings

FAISALABAD:

The City District Government has decided to seal old buildings in the area to avoid the risk of them collapsing during the rainy season.

A CDG spokesperson told reporters that the district coordination officer (DCO) Sadiq Naqi, had directed all the Town Municipal Administrators (TMOs) to conduct a survey of collapsing structures in their respective as soon as possible.

“We need to have a comprehensive strategy in place to seal these buildings when the need arises.

These building are extremely old and the structures are not stable. Keeping them occupied would mean risking precious human lives,” Naqi said.

“Some people in the area have already dug up land for the construction of basements to seek shelter during the monsoons but such places were left uncovered and they now pose the risk of caving in,” he said.

The DCO warned that all such dug up sites that were left uncovered for the construction of basements, should be filled as soon as possible.
