The ICC Cricket World Cup has been an emotional rollercoaster for many

ISLAMABAD: The ICC Cricket World Cup has been an emotional rollercoaster for many, especially fans of the Pakistani team. Luckily for us Pakistanis, our youth has invested itself in creating various coping mechanisms whenever we lost a match. The trend of creating ‘memes’, or pictures with witty captions, has taken the Pakistani internet by storm. We saw numerous memes made at the expense of Captain Sarfaraz Ahmad when he was caught yawning in the match against India. A spectator also went viral as he watched the match with an extremely disappointed expression, and the youngsters just cannot make enough memes out of him. While some supporters of the Pakistani and Afghan team resorted to hurling abuses at each other online. Most Pakistani fans had a field day on the internet, irrespective of the result of our team’s matches. After Pakistan’s disqualification was followed by arch-rival India’s, our youth was eager to lend a shoulder to our grieving neighbours with a barrage of hilarious memes. While we often criticise our youngsters for wasting their time online, we cannot deny the entertainment they have provided throughout the tournament with a side of meme commentary.
