Punjab CM reviews flood arrangements

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar reviewed the preparation plan of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for possible flooding during the upcoming monsoon season.

Chairing a meeting at his office, the chief minister approved changing the name of the Cabinet Committee on Floods to the Cabinet Committee on Disaster. Buzdar directed all departments concerned to ensure that complete arrangements for combating the possible threat of flooding due to rains.

He made it clear that there will be no room for any leniency in this regard and directed officials concerned to ensure effective safety arrangements at areas adjacent to River Indus and other riverside areas. “Timely information should be provided to the local administration and provincial departments while other relief agencies should maintain close liaison,” he said.


He added that the government will provide PDMA with the required resources.

The meeting was briefed that the flow of water in rivers is being monitored regularly while an early flood warning is also in effect. Similarly, different media platforms are also being used to provide information about water levels in rivers.
