ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties are considering three names for the post of Senate chairman after filing the no-trust motion against Sadiq Sanjrani, sources told The Express Tribune on Tuesday.

They said that a few opposition parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), are recommending name of National Party’s (NP) Hasil Bizenjo as the Senate chairman, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has already proposed Raja Zafarul Haq and Musadik Malik for the post.

The sources said that the final decision would be taken with the consent of PML-N leadership.

Bizenjo remained an ally of the PML-N in its previous regime and maintains close relations with Nawaz Sharif. “There are chances that all parties will agree on his name,” a senior opposition member claimed. An NP leader confirmed that PPP has proposed the name of Bazenjo.

The opposition’s Rehbar Committee, in its next meeting on July 11 (tomorrow), will decide about its joint nominee for the post of Senate chairman.
