Elderly beggars

Letter July 10, 2019
I request the children of elderly parents to respect your parents and ensure their needs are fulfilled

MAKRAN: Begging has become a big issue in Balochistan. It has grown rampant and people of all age groups are involved in it including children and the elderly. I have a shop near the TMC Hospital, in Turbat, and every day beggars come in asking for money. One day I asked an aged beggar the reason he resorted to beggary and what forced him to do so. He replied that his children never gave him any money to meet even his basic expenses such as food, and he had been unemployed for a very long time. Both these reasons were highly disturbing. Children forget that their parents who sacrifice their comforts to provide them a comfortable life, and neglect them in their old age. Secondly, our government also needs to create opportunities for the elderly who wish to continue to work, or at least provide them with some sort of relief in their old age. I request the children of elderly parents to respect your parents and ensure their needs are fulfilled. They should not have to go through such difficult times in their old age.
