On Monday, Disney dropped a new trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and needless to say, it looks super exciting!

The sequel to the 2014 spin on Sleeping Beauty has Angelina Jolie reprising her role as the misunderstood sorceress and this time, putting her at the center of a new battle to protect the magical creatures from humans.

Now, having taken Elle Fanning who is playing Princess Aurora under her wing, Maleficent has become protective. When Aurora finds Prince Phillip to marry, a tug-of-war between Maleficent and the girls’s soon-to-be-mother-in-law, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, ensues. The wedding would unite Ulstead and the neighbouring Moors, giving the nuptials greater stakes across the land. It is time for something borrowed, something blue and some kind of magical, wings-out war. Looks like weddings are always complicated, even in the fairy tale universe. "Love," Maleficent tells Aurora, "doesn't always end well."

The trailer also teases the story of Maleficent’s origins. At the very end, we discover that Maleficent is not the only one of her kind.

Uninvited family members showing up is always a no-no. “You have done an admirable job going against your own nature to raise this child,” The Queen tells Maleficent. “But now, she will finally get the love of a real mother. Tonight, I consider Aurora my own.”

According to Disney’s summary, Maleficent and Aurora “are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be family.”

Maleficent was one of the first Disney live-action remakes to be released but got delayed due to Jolie's unavailability. The film opens October 18 and also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville.
