ISLAMABAD: The government is making all-out efforts to strengthen the agriculture sector, said Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan. In a meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan Paul Jones, he added that the government had identified few areas to be developed on priority including agriculture mechanisation, augmentation of cotton yield, development of oilseed, and decreasing the import bill. The meeting was held in the backdrop of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s forthcoming visit to USA in the second half of July 2019. The minister added that dates from Pakistan could be granted market access to USA. Jones said that US was well aware of the fact that Pakistan was an important agricultural country. Both sides agreed that PM’s forthcoming visit would be vital to highlight the preferred areas of cooperation especially in the field of agriculture.
